Support by Languages
Best option is to visit El Centro or the Dream Center.
Additional Spanish speakers on campus:
Chabot College Recruitment and Promotional Plan for provision of services for limited English language skills (ELS) individuals
ELS students, whose dominant language is Spanish, are referred to El Centro, a centralized one-stop outreach and intake resource center on campus where we have a team of bilingual professionals and student assistants who assist prospective students to apply to the college, register for classes, create an SEP plan with one of counselors, including CTE programs, and apply for financial aid. El Centro provides a counselor with more specialized experience working with undocumented students who works closely with the Dream Center which provides bilingual (English/Spanish) support, resources, information and referrals for all Dream, undocumented, AB540, and DACA students and allies in a safe and confidential environment. In addition to these comprehensive recruitment and intake services, Chabot provides recruitment & promotional services for limited English language skills individuals by:
- Referring individuals to our Language Assistance website and Google Translate.
- Incorporating El Centro information into our Student Orientation and Registration (SOAR) presentation while visiting all service area high schools to recruit seniors to consider attending Chabot College
- The El Centro/HSI Outreach Specialist creates presentations, fliers, and workshops in Spanish as needed to assist in disseminating information about CTE programs at Chabot through SOAR referrals and additional high school outreach activities. El Centro partners with the English as a Second Language program in assisting students who plan to take ESL classes with the application, enrollment and counseling support processes. The Outreach Specialist may also be invited to ESL classes to share programs.
- El Centro meets with the CTE program manager & team to assess where services for limited English language skills students may need support.
- El Centro counselors also work to identify popular CTE programs that we can promote through bilingual materials & fliers.
- The college has contracted translation services through two translation companies for other languages including Tagalog and Vietnamese, the 2nd and 3rd most spoken language at the college so recruitment and promotional materials can be translated as needed.
- Once onboarding is complete, limited English language students may return to El Centro to meet with a counselor for a customized Student Education Plan and assistance in accessing college resources along with assessing progress toward goal completion each term of enrollment.
