Resources and Support
The ECD program provides several supports for its students to help them succeed in the academic program:
Welcome Event: At the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters we host a Welcome Event to introduce the faculty to students, announce new programs and courses, and give them information about student services on campus. We have some food and give raffle prizes too!
Zero- and low-cost textbooks and textbook loans: Many ECD instructors have started to use Zero-cost or low-cost textbooks in many of their classes; your instructor will tell you how to access these free and low-cost instructional materials. In addition, we have some textbooks available for students to borrow for free in many of the ECD classes. Books are distributed by instructors in the first two weeks of classes. Students are asked to return books during finals week; if books are not returned, a hold could be placed on a student’s account until the book is returned.
Tutoring: We have ECD tutors who work in Learning Connection. Look for the announcement at the beginning of the semester about their availability.
Advising: Terra Lee, our ECD Professional Development Coordinator, advises students on courses needed for degrees, certificates and permits, can help with permit applications and prerequisite challenges, and answer questions about careers in Early Childhood Education.
Email list: We have an email mailing list that announces job opportunities, events, new courses and program news, and professional development opportunities. Email Terra Lee and put “ECD News” in the subject line.

Child Development Training Consortium (CDTC)
The CDTC provides a stipend program for working students who are taking college classes.
Community Child Care Council (4Cs) of Alameda County is our local Resource and Referral Agency. It provides services for providers and parents in Alameda County.
California Early Childhood Mentor Program supports a diverse workforce and diverse programs. These programs include family childcare, private centers, state pre-schools, and Head Starts. 50% of the CECMP certified sites have a quality rating through Quality Counts California, with 81% of those sites rating at a 4 or 5.
